This subject provides an introductory understanding of computer hardware and software and of the units which comprise a computer system. It gives an understanding of the functions of computer systems and the interaction between hardware, software and the computer user. It develops a knowledge of how data is prepared for computer processing and how it is represented as algorithms and processed at a basic machine level. It places particular emphasis on systems architecture, hardware, and software (operating systems).

This subject will demonstrate techniques for gathering and presenting information to a live audience or reader, including an interview panel. Students will learn how to construct written presentations, presentations that make use of software (such as slides), and presenting to an interview panel. Students will then use these skills to gather information about prospective employers and to pursue entry-level computer support positions within the ICT industry.

This subject provides an understanding of computer networks and data communications. It includes the network technology and standards underlying the applications and the computer network systems that support them. Network design and management, network security, telecommunication systems and the Internet are covered in detail. ITC321 Introduction To ITIL Practices
This subject provides grounding in the IT Infrastructure Library (ITIL) and the underlying frameworks and standards. Students will be introduced to the concept of IT Service Management (ITSM) as a practice and the ITIL Service Life Cycle. The ITIL processes, functions, roles and activities and how they integrate to support the needs of business needs will be explained. Key principles, models and terminology associated with the five key areas: Service Strategy, Service Design, Service Transition, Service Operation and Continual Service Improvement; of ITIL will be explained as will the relevance of the Service Management Processes to the Service Life Cycle.

This subject investigates aspects of professional practice and specific tasks that need to be undertaken in order to initiate an IT project.

ITC331 Security, Privacy & Ethics
The aim of this subject is to understand and examine a wide range of ethical, privacy and security issues and concepts in the information and communication technology (ICT) field. Information security concepts as they apply to the management of information system (IS) security will be covered. The different types of widely used policies, the mechanisms that implement these policies and the principles underlying both policies and mechanisms will be examined. The ethical implications of security will also be explored, particularly with respect to privacy. The students will be also introduced to ethical issues and concepts. Specific topics will include ethical theories, organisational ethical codes and conducts, ethical and social issues such as privacy, intellectual property, the digital divide, and employment in an ICT-dependent work environment.

The concepts covered in this subject will change as the emergence of networking technologies and trends change. Concepts that would be initially covered in this subject include: Voice Over Internet Protocol, Network Quality of Service, IPv6, IP multicast and Peer to Peer networking protocols.
